On August 5th the Shuswap’s New Rescue Boat, the “Tolonen” was paraded through Sicamous at the District of Sicamous “Sun and Sand” parade. The "Tolonen" was launched into the Shuswap at the Old Town Bay boat ramp and paraded past the Silver Sands Beach and through Sicamous Channel and docked at the Main boat ramp.
The Tolonen is a 2007 40-foot Titan rigid hull inflatable. It has been transferred to the Shuswap from RCM SAR Station 103 in Victoria. Prior to arriving in the Shuswap, the vessel has undergone a retrofit to extend its lifespan by at least another 10 years. Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Shuswap Station 106 station leader Rob Sutherland said the new-to-the-Shuswap boat will be Station 106’s main asset for search and rescue operations on Shuswap and Mara lakes.
SWOA board has voted to donate $1500 to the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 106.
